Job Description

The Business Office primarily supports the financial aspects of the school, including tuition, accounts payable, and several other functions and services. Punahou School is seeking a highly motivated professional to serve as an Accounting Analyst. Under general supervision, the Accounting Analyst is responsible for the proper recording and reporting of accounting transactions relating to cash, accounts payable and receivable, and other business office transactions. Primary duties include, but are not limited to:

  • Assists with the management of the full-cycle accounting processes and is responsible for the proper recording of accounts to the General Ledger (GL) in accordance with the generally accepted accounting principles.
  • Assists in preparing and completing financial and regulatory reports, account analysis, account reconciliations, financial statements, and reports.
  • Coordinates and resolves accounting matters with other Business Office functions and/or department representatives.
  • Supports internal and external audits including preparing financial statements and workpapers, gathering data, and responding to inquiries. Supports tax filings including preparation of Form 990.
  • Assists in facilitating cash management activities for the school to ensure cash flow needs are met, as needed.
  • Updates and maintains accounting systems and processes.

Position Details:
  • Work Year: 12 Month
  • Work Hours: Monday - Friday, 7:30 AM - 4:00 PM, Schedule may vary based on operational needs
  • Starting Hourly Rate*: $36.20

Pay for selected candidates will be determined by various factors such as knowledge, skills, abilities, relevant training and experience, and internal equity.


Minimum Qualifications:
  • Bachelor’s Degree in Accounting or Finance or a combination of education and experience.
  • Five (5) years of related accounting experience including performing detailed accounting functions such as supporting schedule preparations, account reconciliations, and financial report preparation.
  • Experience with general ledger and financial reporting systems for not-for profits (or similar systems).
  • Advanced knowledge and experience in Microsoft applications, including Excel, Access, and Word required.
  • Knowledge and ability to translate raw data into input formats that will ultimately generate accurate financial and management reports.
  • Familiarity with relational databases, student information systems, and internet applications is preferred; experience with Blackbaud is a plus.
  • Strong knowledge of GAAP, internal controls, and accounting procedures.
