JOB TITLE: Staff Accountant
REPORT TO: Controller/Chief Financial Officer
DIRECT REPORTS: None
EXEMPT STATUS: Non-Exempt

The Wahiawā Center for Community Health (Wahiawā Health) is a Federally Qualified Health Center Look-Alike and a fully integrated primary care and behavioral health system. Our nearly 40 professionals and providers serve the people of Wahiawā, Mililani and Waialua. Our services include Primary Care, Women’s Health, Pediatrics, Gerontology, Behavioral Health, Medical Nutrition Therapy, Podiatry and Health & Wellness Education. In 2019, we served over 5,000 patients of which 97% are living at or below 200% of the federal poverty level. JOB SUMMARY: Under the direct supervision of the Controller, (or if none, Chief Financial Officer), and in collaboration with the Accounting Department and Billing Department, this position is responsible for, but not limited to, general ledger accounting, bank reconciliation, payroll processing, billing filing and assists with monthly closing, annual audits, grant tracking, data mining and reporting. May be required to undergo additional training to keep current the skill set required to perform well in the job. Maintaining confidentiality at all times is also required.
JOB DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES
Administration and other functions
1. Perform procedures for efficient, accurate, timely, and confidential processing of invoices, timesheets, and accounting data entry into accounting software.
2. Help maintain that general ledger is accurate by performing calculations and entries of accruals and bank reconciliations.
3. Maintain accurate and timely record of grant income and expenditures.
4. Expected to assist with month-end closing.
5. Ensure that all files are maintained and organized.
6. Keeps record of quality measures data for the organization.
7. Assist the Billing Department on medical billing, following up on claims, track aging and payment status.
8. Establish relationships with and maintain familiarity with the requirements of third-party insurers, including state and federal health services programs benefiting Center clients.
9. Monitor reconciled third-party insurance remittances and cash collections.
10. Develop and maintain good work relationships with third party vendors.
11. Generates A/R and Payment reports for weekly meeting, planning and goal setting with Controller.
12. Assist Controller with projects related to accounting, taxation, billing, collections, and administrative tasks.
13. Work collaboratively with other staff on special projects and may be required to help other areas of the clinic where it is appropriate.

KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS AND ABILITIES
• Knowledge of:
o Accounts payable, payroll processing and basic human resources.
o Billing procedures, especially in medical setting.
o General accounting principles and billing software, Sage software knowledge preferred.
o Medical terminology
o Non-Profit
• Skills in:
o Effective oral and written communication.
o Effective organization of work and attention to detail a must.
o Using a computer for word processing, billing systems and e-mail.
o Advance knowledge of Excel and Access programs.

QUALIFICATIONS
To qualify for this position, an individual must possess any combination equivalent to experience and/or education that would likely produce the required knowledge, skill and ability mentions above. A typical way to acquire the required qualifications would be:
Experience:
At least 3 years of experience in general ledger accounting, AP, AR, and payroll processing. Experience in a medical setting with heavy billing and AP responsibilities highly desirable.
Education:
A bachelor’s degree in accounting, business finance, or quantitative analysis with at least 24-hour credit in accounting preferred.
OTHER
Physical Requirements:
Normal health center/interior office environment. Ability to see, hear, speak, walk or move about, sit and/or stand for long periods of time, reach, stoop, bend and lift up to 20lbs. repetitive hand movement; use of computer; use of calculator, use of common office equipment e.g. fax machine, copier, telephone. Able to read and write English.
