Let's Elevate Accounting! Advocating for Accounting as a STEM Discipline
STEM bipartisan bills (H.R. 3541 and S. 1705) that would allow existing K-12 STEM grant funding to be used for accounting education, with a focus on improving access for underrepresented students.
The Hawaii Society of CPAs wants to add your voice to an important effort to encourage the designation of accounting as a STEM (science, technology, engineering, mathematics) discipline in education. You’re invited to join our campaign to promote this transformative initiative. Read on for more details or click below to access our dedicated campaign page and learn how you can get involved.
Why recognize accounting as a STEM discipline?
STEM-designated fields are eligible for additional state and federal resources, expanding opportunities for students at all education levels creating pathways for future accountants. Expanding STEM programs is crucial to closing the growing talent gap for qualified accountants and CPAs.
How can you help promote this important change?
There are simple ways you can add your voice to this campaign as a member of the accounting profession and HSCPA.
Send letters to your U.S. senator and congressional representative to cosponsor two bipartisan, bicameral, AICPA-endorsed bills. Learn more about these bills and find draft messages to send on our campaign page here.
Reach out to your alma mater to ask for their support in changing their Classification of Instructional Programs (CIP) codes to obtain the STEM classification for their university accounting program. You can share this link with your educator contacts for their consideration.
Your support is integral to increasing the visibility of this important advocacy effort. Let's shape the future of accounting together!
